From Blah to Breathtaking: Small Details That Make a Bold Impact

If you’re anything like me then you want your home to feel cozy, approachable, and safe (whatever that looks and feels like to you) while also being resolutely avant-garde.

Also, if you’re anything like me, then the notion of where to start and what to do can be overwhelmingly daunting.

You have the ability to give your home the haute-couture appliques it craves to embrace the historic components while honoring the contemporary, all while creating something that is quintessentially YOURS, and I am going to help you!

1. Update Your Front Door – you don’t need a brand-new door to make your entrance stand out. Give it some color! The addition of an eye-catching hue can have such a dramatic effect on the look and feel of your façade, and it’s a great way to display your personality in a seemingly subtle context.

2. Update Your Cabinets – let me say this again: UPDATE YOUR CABINETS. Antiquated cabinetry can absolutely suck the life out of your interior. Having them painted can take years off the life of your home. Bold black, bright white, or revitalizing the stain (or any color that makes you happy!) brings a breath of fresh air.

2(a). Update Your Hardware – if your handles and knobs are dull and lifeless, or just don’t mesh with the theme you’re aiming for, change them out! It’s so simple and yet so significant.

3. Freshen Up Your Trim – molding and baseboards become so faded and dingy over time, and are often neglected as an essential facet of your home. Simply having it painted adds a noticeable wow-factor.

4. Add Board & Batten – this is, by comparison, an inexpensive way to transform ANY area in your house. You can create any style and color your heart desires, it can be a simple or complex as you want it and will yield such an intrinsically captivating feature.

5. Utilize Accent Colors – I, personally, am a huge fan of having accent walls or adding splashes of color sporadically throughout your home. You can have your kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, dining room, office, workout room, etc., or a singular wall in any room, painted in an alternate hue from the balance of your abode and it’s a unique facet which draws attention from the center-point outward.

6. Tiling – Having tile put into your bathrooms, backsplash, or laundry room adds a sophisticated air through low-effort means. It’s a creative way to add texture, dimension, and color while maintaining a polished façade.
